10 Simple Rules

1) Safety is the first rule

At WANDERBIRD Adventure, safety is the highest priority.

You are responsible for every decision you take.

The organizers provide a framework, information tools, and emergency protocols, but you decide when to go, when to stop, and when to walk away.

Participation involves significant risks, including serious injury or death. Each participant takes part entirely at their own responsibility and risk.

If your idea of adventure is taking reckless risks, pushing beyond your competence, or proving something at the expense of safety, take our advice:
Do not register for the WANDERBIRD Adventure.

This format is built on responsibility, self-awareness, and long-term thinking.
Courage only becomes strength when it’s guided by awareness and responsibility.

2) Only hiking and paragliding flight are permitted

Progress may only be made on foot or by paragliding flight.

Any other form of transportation is not allowed.

Either you carry your glider, or your glider carries you.

Public transport may only be used in case of withdrawal or emergency. Any use of transport to gain positional advantage is considered a rule violation.

3) Fully self-supported means no organized support

No ground crews.
No arranged logistics.
No external tactical assistance.
No media teams following participants.

Any support that is not equally available to everyone is not permitted.

This is a spirit rule. We trust the spirit of the WANDERBIRD Community.

4) Public resources are allowed if equally accessible

You may use infrastructure, services, information, and supplies that are publicly available and equally accessible to everyone, such as shops, accommodation, Apps and public services (that don’t interfere with other event rules).

Anything personalized, pre-arranged, or exclusive support is not permitted.

Burnair Map is the official reference platform for airspace status and flight restrictions and serves as the organizer’s validation tool in case of doubt.

5) One framework line but your path is your decision

The Adventure is defined by the shared structure: start and finish location and turnaround options.

Your actual route, timing, and style are your responsibility.

6) Turnaround options define the categories

There is one main Adventure line with three turnaround options:

FUN: 150 km turnaround, approx. 300 km total

TOUR: 250 km turnaround, approx. 500 km total

HERO: 400 km turnaround, approx. 800 km total

Participants may freely change category until the official start.
During the event, category may be changed once. Immediate notification to the event organizer is mandatory.

7) Tracking is mandatory

Live tracking via Burnair is required for official recognition and serves as an additional safety layer.

Burnair is the reference platform for tracking validation and airspace status. In case of doubt, Burnair information is the basis for decisions.

Tracking must remain active throughout the event window. It is your responsibility to keep the tracker charged and functioning.

In case of failure, you must immediately inform the organization and provide backup GPS data if requested.

Intentional manipulation or unexplained tracking gaps may result in disqualification.

8) Respect aviation law

All respective national aviation rules and regulations apply, including airspace restrictions, VFR rules, equipment certification, and local regulations.

Flying must comply with legal daylight regulations.

Serious violations, especially controlled or prohibited airspace infringements, may lead to immediate disqualification and possible reporting to authorities.

Participants are solely responsible for compliance.

9) Participation requires conscious assessment and commitment

Every certified, insured, and proficient cross-country paragliding pilot aged 18 or older may participate. If you are not sure what this means, please do your research.

Participation requires honest self-assessment of your skills, fitness, and goals.

Participants must be physically and mentally fit to undertake multi-day alpine Hike and Fly activity.

If you are not prepared to walk down when in doubt at takeoff, this event is not for you.

The organization reserves the right to refuse participation or remove a participant if serious safety concerns arise.

10) Recognition, not comparison

There is no ranking and no podium. There is a legendary finishers list with times.

Official finisher status requires reaching the declared turnaround and returning to the finish within the official event window with valid tracking.
Failure to carry mandatory equipment may result in exclusion from official recognition.

Participants who complete their chosen challenge:

• are listed as finishers

• have their track published

• receive a finisher Trophy

Recognition reflects commitment, responsibility, and safe execution.
